Blastocyst transfer
A Blastocyst transfer involves culturing the embryos developed through the IVF process to 5-6 days post fertilization. The main intent behind Blastocyst culture and transfer is to maximise pregnancy chances per embryo transfer while minimising multiple pregnancy and the associated risks. By carefully selecting the appropriate couples we hope to optimise the chances of taking home a healthy baby.
Balstocyst transfer allows for greater observation of the growing embryos therefore improving selection to the most appropriate embryo to transfer thus maximising the chance of a pregnancy even where just one embryo is transferred.
Blastocyst culture may not be suitable for everyone. Current evidence suggests that it does increase the chance of pregnancy but only in certain groups of patients.
